At the Hamburger Überseebrücke, the first ship of a series of eight energy-efficient multi-purpose freighters for short sea traffic has now been christened “Monika” (Monika Kompernaß, wife of Bochum investor Johannes-Heinrich Kompernaß). The naming took place on Saturday April 14th 2018.
Previously, the vessel, built according the design documentation of Groot Ship Design at the Chinese shipyard Zhejiang Zengzhou, had completed her maiden voyage with rotor blades for wind energy plants from Tianjin to Rouen. The chartering of the “Monika” (IMO 9815317) and her sister ships, which are still under construction, will be carried out by Briese Chartering and the Swedish charterer AtoB @ C Shipping, in which the shipping company Briese has a 50-percent stake. The Ostfriesische Volksbank Leer has been involved in the financing of this new series.
The 90-meter long, 3415-GT vessel, “Open Top Eco 5000” design, has a deadweight capacity of 4,938 tons and a cargo volume of 224,100 cubic feet. The Dutch-flagged “Monika” classified by the Bureau Veritas includes ice class 1A. With a drive power of 1600 kilowatts, she achieves a cruising speed of approximately 10 knots. According to the shipping company 4.9 tons of fuels per day are consumed. Compared to older ships of the same size, this means a saving of 40 percent with a corresponding reduction in harmful emissions.
